An electric string trimmer is a must need tool for any garden and also for any small yards that you may have. Electric string trimmers are a must for any garden or yard simply because it goes in the hard to reach places that lawn mowers can’t. This article shows you which electric string trimmer are the best out in the market today.

1. Black & Decker NST2018 Grass Hog 12-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer

Customer Rating: 4 stars out of 5 stars

As of right now, the Black & Decker Grass Hog is the best and most sought after electric string trimmer out on the market today. As a matter of a fact, many of the customers that have bought it only rated it 4 stars because of the plastic which, let’s face it, isn’t that big of a concern compared to the bigger picture of the actual operations of this fine string trimmer.

I would highly recommend the Black & Decker NST2018 Grass Hog for anyone who doesn’t have very thick or tough stems in their backyards or for people who do not like the smell or noise of its gas driven competitors. As with all electric string trimmers, this is cordless and will require you to charge the battery every so often. Also if you do have some thick or tough stems in your yard, I would recommend switching the line to a thicker and much tougher line so that it will be able to trim those stems with little to no harm.

Now, you may say that this is all well and good, but what is its price range? Well to simply put it, it is the best bang for its buck! It has very little negative qualities; only one that I can think of is its battery life which isn’t that bad at all. It is available for $191.66; however, if you click here and buy it on Amazon, you will save 49% (subject to change)!

2. WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with Quick Charge

Customer Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars

If the Grass Hog is number 1 on the best electric string trimmers list, then the WORX GT WG151.5 is right in line for second place, and it is pretty close. The WORX GT WG151.5 is able to get such a higher rating because it is able to handle most of any yard work available and able to do so efficiently and quickly with its innovative ergonomic design. This design allows the users to comfortably and efficiently handle any environment that might be on the yard. It can even reach below shrubs that others can’t because of this design!

Many people go with the WORX GT151.5 because it is able to handle the most weeds and grasses combined with its lightweight, electric driven motor and of course the ergonomic design. You just simply can’t go wrong with this electric string trimmer. This is available for $199.99 in stores; however, you can get it for just $149.99 (subject to change) by clicking here to go to Amazon! This is probably really the big difference between the Grass Hog and WORX GT WG151.5. The price is just unbeatable for the Black & Decker Grass Hog.

3. Black & Decker Heavy Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer

Customer Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars

The Black & Decker NST2036 Heavy Duty Electric String Trimmer is everything its name says; it is a string trimmer that has an electric motor and is so heavy duty that it can do the work of a gas string trimmer! Many professional and commercial gardeners have praised this Black & Decker string trimmer because of its heavy duty capabilities. It takes both the gas string trimmer’s pros and the electric string trimmers cons can combines them with minimal setbacks! In fact, it will be so capable that even your neighbors might want to give it a test! Now, there are still one minor issue on this electric string trimmer and that is that it is so powerful that it takes out all the battery life! However, if you have an extra Black & Decker battery lying around, this it’s easy to overcome this obstacle. This is also one of the reasons why it is ranked lower than the Grass Hog and the WORX GT WG151.5. This fine electric string trimmer is available for $169.99 on Amazon. So what are you waiting for? History and Operations of the String Trimmers

Now, many of you may be wondering: how exactly did a person come up with the design and layout of this staple tool used for gardening? Well, this idea came up in the early 1970’s when a man named George Ballas got the idea from an automatic car wash that would wash the car in revolving motions with cleaning brushes. The first string trimmer that came out was called the “weed eater” because of the way it would essentially eat away at the weed around a tree. These days, all string trimmers use the same design, a long shaft with an engine at the top and a string as a cutter on the bottom; most trimmers will have a protective cover to cover the string so that debris and grass will not hit the user.

Another question that many of you might be wondering is how does a string trimmer cut the grass exactly; the string on the trimmer doesn’t seem strong enough to cut away at grass as it can easily be bent with just a little force with your fingers. The answer is this is simple, string trimmers use basic physics, more specifically centripetal force, to help do the task at hand. The basis is that the string will keep rotating quickly, as the string rotates more rapidly, the stiffer the string gets. So the higher the RPM is, the strong the string gets and so the more it can cut. However, if the string isn’t strong, there will obviously be damages to the string trimmer and will be forced to do some rewiring. Some companies have designed stronger monofilament lines, or designed extruded shapes like a star to help with the maintenance of the string and also to help maximize the full potential the user can get out of the trimmer.

Now, string trimmers are divided into electric string trimmers and gas string trimmers. The difference between the two is that the electric string trimmer’s power comes from an electric motor and the gas string trimmer’s power comes from a gas motor. This may seem like a very small difference to some people, however it is vastly different as electric string trimmers are easier to handle with, more lightweight and for light-duty tasks like for cutting grass in an urban neighborhood’s house. While the gas string trimmer is heavier and more for heavy-duty tasks like for farms or fields that have many different types of thick shrubs and bushes. You can have a look at the differences between gas string trimmers and electric string trimmers to see if an electric string trimmer is what you need for the task at hand.

Gas String Trimmer Vs Electric String Trimmer

So you have decided to get a string trimmer but is in the big debate on which one to get, a gas string trimmer or an electric string trimmer. Well look no further! This is the article for you. Here you will find everything you need to know about gas or electric string trimmers so that you can make an informed decision.

In my experiences, I have always preferred electric string trimmers to gas string trimmers; however it really depends on the situation and the environment you’re going to use it in. If you live in an urban area and you just need a string trimmer to do your yard work, then the electric powered ones are perfect for you! If you live in a farming area and you actually need the trimmer to be able to handle tough and thick areas then definitely a gas powered one is for you. Let’s face it though, how many of us are living in a farm right now? Also, if you do live on a farm you probably know this already. This is just to clarify for the people who live in cities that think going with a gas string trimmer is a better choice because it has more power so it will be more convenient.

Why are electric string trimmers so much better than gas string trimmers you might ask? Well that’s simple! If you look at any one of the reviews I have made on any electric string trimmer, you will find out. To summarize an electric string trimmer is silent, cleaner and lighter than its gas powered competitors. If you live in a neighborhood, you definitely don’t want a trimmer that can wake up your neighbors or that can cause some unnecessary gas to pollute the air around as well. This is why electric string trimmers are so much better in city areas! Also with a gas powered string trimmer you will always have to manually start it up by pulling the strings however, with an electric string trimmer all you will have to is press a button… and also know how much battery is left in it but that is a much simpler task than trying to figure out how to start up a gas powered engine isn’t it?

Now, if you still aren’t sold on this, you can read some more articles on different electric string trimmers. If after reading this you do want to get an electric string trimmer but don’t know which one to get, I would recommend the Black & Decker NST2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric 12-Inch Grass Hog String Trimmer and you can read more about it by clicking here!
